Flowertown Elementary
School (FES) was built in 1979 as a K-2 school that fed
into Newington (right next door), which housed grades
3-5. In 1997, all elementary schools in Dorchester
District Two went to a K-5 grade configuration. FES was
built to conserve energy –which is why there are no
windows and a sleek design.

Each
classroom surrounds a “pod”, which creates a cozy
atmosphere for learning. Today our "pods" are used for
computer labs, small group instruction, guest speakers,
and group activities. |

There
are 6 kindergarten classrooms; 8 first grade classrooms;
9 second grade classrooms; 8 third grade classrooms; 7
fourth grade classrooms; and 7 fifth grade classrooms. |

FES
is an award-winning school and has served as a model
school for many throughout the State. FES has been an
Incentive Award Winning School for 12 years, Palmetto’s
Finest in 1988 and a Literary Spot award winner in 1995.
We’ve also been in the “Writing Hall of Fame” for the
State of South Carolina. We house just over 1000 "busy
bee" children in our student body and have approximately
115 people on staff. |

FES
is home to an award winning, active PTA, that supports a
very wonderful volunteer program. Our volunteer program
