I am excited to be the new principal of
Flowertown Elementary School. I grew up in Summerville and am
delighted to have the opportunity to come home and be a part of
Dorchester School District Two. This year marks my nineteenth
year in education where I have served as a classroom teacher, an
elementary school principal, a middle school principal, and a
district director of curriculum of instruction.
I have spent much of my educational career truly being a
life-long learner. I attended Clemson University where I
earned my Bachelor’s of Arts in elementary education. I
attended Charleston Southern University and received a master’s
degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in school
administration. This summer I completed my Educational
Specialist degree from South Carolina State University.
Flowertown Elementary School has a rich history of
providing quality programs and services to all children. I
look forward to building upon the great things this school has to
offer and to getting to know the families of Flowertown Elementary
School.

Hello, my name is Rachel Mahaffey, Assistant Principal. I am
specifically responsible for grades one, three, and five. There have
been many transitions to my career in education. I began my teaching
career at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind. Job
changes for my husband have enlightened my experiences in several
states, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. I taught Health and
Physical Education at various grade levels for 26 years before
pursuing an administration position. My first experience as an
assistant principal was at Gregg Middle School. At Flowertown
Elementary School I daily continue to acquire skills necessary to
enhance myself in this capacity. I have thoroughly enjoyed each day
at Flowertown Elementary School. Your children are being supervised
and taught by an educated, wonderful, caring staff. I look forward
to the days ahead to challenge myself and your child. If I can be of
assistance to you in any way please do not hesitate to contact me. |
My name is Debbie Call, and I am very excited about
joining a wonderful staff of “busy bees” as an assistant
principal in training! Although new to Flowertown and
the administrative team here, I have been an educator for
over 28 years, 23 of them in Dorchester Two, as a teacher at
various grade levels and most recently as the Coordinator of
Gifted Programs. I retired from that position two
years ago to spend time with my first grandchild (Carter),
but now that he is older and I once again have time on my
hands, I want very much to continue serving the children of
our wonderful school district.
I was born and have lived in Summerville for most of my life.
My two sons (Richard and Joe) also grew up in Summerville
and attended Dorchester Two Schools. My younger son was
actually a Flowertown student back when Mr. Pye was
principal, so I sort of feel like I am coming home! My
husband (Rick) and I have been married for 34 years and feel
very fortunate to have both sets of parents, as well as both
of our sons’ families close by. I love sports and spend my
spare time at sporting events, playing golf, and/or reading.
I graduated from Winthrop University and
received my Master’s Degree in Elementary School
Administration from The Citadel. During my two years
of retirement I continued to challenge myself professionally
as an adjunct professor for The College of Charleston,
“teaching” teachers. I thoroughly enjoy pursuing
educational opportunities that help me learn and grow
professionally, and I look forward to using what I have
learned to help me support and serve the children here at
Flowertown. Our goal is for the children at Flowertown
to be the best that they can be and for Flowertown
Elementary to be the “flagship” school in Dorchester Two!
Please feel free to contact me at any time to not only share
any concerns that you may have, but also to share the many
successes that we will experience! |
