"Busy Bees Always Do Their Personal Best!"

          Our school has had the opportunity to become part of the School Improvement Grant through the state department.  This program is called Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS).  It is a process for creating a safer and more effective school.  PBIS is a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate ALL children by developing research-based, school wide, and classroom discipline systems.  The process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students.  At Flowertown it all starts with our motto…"Busy Bees ALWAYS do their Personal Best". 

          We took this motto and have taught the students what it means to do your personal best in all areas of our school, the classroom, the bus, the hallways, the cafeteria, the car rider area, and the bus loop.  Students are rewarded for doing their personal best by Bee Bucks.  All the adults at the school have these Bee Bucks and students can be rewarded in all areas of the school by any adult by bee-ing good.  Students save their bucks in order to go shopping at the "Bee Store" once a month.   Ask your child about their most recent visit to the storeJ.  The other part of this is working as a class to earn Class Bee Bucks.  Classes are working towards a goal which starts back at zero and increases each time…25, 50, 75, and 100.  As each goal is met, the class votes on a celebration.  Some examples of celebrations are a bubble gum party, hat day, PJ day, extra recess, talking lunch, and the biggest celebration a dance!   Many classes have already reached their first goal.  We are so excited to have this program in place and have already seen such wonderful and positive changes in our school.  Ask your child about it tonight at dinner!
