SIC is a broad-based community advisory group comprised of parents, teachers, and community members established in every school. This advisory group works with the principal to cultivate a positive school environment supporting student success.

School Improvement Council Meeting Minutes
Members Present: Marvin Taylor, Lindsay Stark, Michelle Ryan, Alex Harrison, Lisa Sweat, Tina Gerwig, Alisha Kowsky
- Meeting was called to order 7:30.
- Members shared “Good Things” to kick off the meeting.
- Last year’s April minutes were approved as submitted.
- What is SIC?
- Mr. Taylor shared the School Improvement Plan and the purpose of SIC.
- We will create our 2025-2026 SIC Goals during our next meeting.
- Principal’s update: Mr. Taylor
- Record breaking Meet the Teacher attendance.
- Open House is tomorrow
- We currently have 764 students; hoping to get up into the 800s. Our 4th grade numbers are huge.
- New initiatives: Room Parent Program
- MAP Testing just finished last week. Summer slide a little bit.
- Each student will have a regular growth goal and a stretch goal.
- New math curriculum=Eureka Math
- Feedback from All Pro Dads: Moms are upset that only Dads are invited. It is a Christian-based program. The guys felt like they were at a lecture instead of having fun with their kids. BINGO is coming back! We’re going to pivot and go back to Guys in the Hive.
- PTA Update: Ms. Harrison
- Picture Day is this Friday—a Sign-Up Genius will be sent home today.
- We would like to build a strong partnership between PTA and SIC this year.
- Report to the Parents:
- Mr. Taylor shared the report that Ms. Ryan created last year.
- Future Business:
- Book Character Parade will be October 29th—coffee set up would be appreciated.
- Elections have to happen by October 15th
- Comments/Questions
- A student stated that some of the bathrooms doors do not lock. Mr. Taylor asked Mr. Matt to check on this and fix the locks.
- Room Parents: Volunteers came to a training. The way they are used is up to teachers. Mr. Taylor’s expectation is that Room Parents will be involved at least once a quarter.

· Meeting was called to order 7:35
· Members shared “Good Things” to kick off the meeting.
· September minutes were approved as submitted.
· Principal Update:
o Mr. Taylor shared the School Report Card information. This is embargoed now but will be released to the public by the State Department of Education soon.
· Title I/Curriculum Update:
o Ms. Stark shared the goals from the School Reading Plan.
o Information about Parent Workshops was shared. Feedback on how to increase participation was requested.
o Ms. Stark explained how the Title I funds will be used this year.
· School Counselor Advisory Council:
o Ms. Kowsky shared information in compliance with the Fall SCAC Meeting requirements.
o School Counselor Goal this year is to help decrease bus referrals. Ms. White and Ms. Kowsky have a shared action plan that includes schoolwide incentives and small group reteaching.
o The counselors will join us in April to share their results.
· PTA Update:
o Buzz-a-Thon will be February 23-March 3
· Report to the Parents:
o Mr. Taylor shared the report that Ms. Ryan created last year.
· Future Business:
o Book Character Parade will be October 29th—SIC will set up a table with coffee and QR code regarding SIC information.
o Review the SIC goals from last year. Come to the next meeting with ideas for this year.

Principal Update: Mr. Taylor
- October was a busy month!
- The state still has not released the school report cards. Hopefully, that will happen soon.
- Winter MAP Testing will happen in December. Every student has a norm-goal (maintains their current level) as well as a stretch goal (increases achievement percentile). We are going to try to figure out a great way to reward our teachers.
- New Initiative: AR and Reflex to grow reading comprehension and math fact fluency.
- Room Parents: this program is going well. Parents are helping immensely!
Title I/Curriculum Update: Ms. Edge
- Ms. Edge shared information about Accelerated Reader (AR). 2nd-5th grade students read a book, then take a comprehension quiz. Students earn points based on their score. All students have quarterly goals.
- Incentives:
- 100% club—students who make a 100 on a quiz put their name in a bucket in the library. Ms. Edge pulls 1-2 names per month. Winner gets a Vending Machine Coin and 10 Bee Bucks.
- At the end of the year, the students who meet their goals will get an extra incentive at the Beach Bash.
- Our school Title I paid for it this year. We are one of three schools using AR this year.
- Kindergarten and 1st grade students take tests as a class.
- Ms. Edge went through the process of how to take a test so parents can help their students at home.
PTA Update: Alex Harrison
- Buzz-a-Thon will be February 23-March 3.
- Friendsgiving donations started today (through the 14th). We need extra volunteers to pack boxes, count items, etc. The class who brings the most items will win a pizza party.
- PTA and Counselors will be packing boxes on Nov. 17th and 18th. It would be great if anyone could help during those days.
- We will be able to serve 30 families (66 kids).
- Teacher Luncheon is on Nov. 21st (Chicken Salad Chick).
- Angel Tree will be set up prior to Thanksgiving break.
- We have a new popcorn machine! If anyone is interested in being the official Popcorn Colonel, that would be amazing! Nov. 7th and Nov. 21st are popcorn days this month.
- Next meeting Nov. 20th at 6pm in the media center.
Comments:
- Parent Workshop topics were discussed. Good times for the workshops would be in the morning right after drop-off and in the afternoon right before pick-up. If an after-school option is presented, it needs to be after 5:00.
- At the end of each month, send out a Month Overview so parents know what is planned for the entire month. Then send out reminders as the dates get closer.

- Principal Update: Mr. Taylor
- We officially made it to December! We’ve had a great year so far!
- We got a new special education playground. It provides us with a safe place and is easier to monitor than the old playground. We got a surprise kindergarten playground, as well!
- We would like to bring the chickens back, but we’re trying to figure out where they can go. Mr. Taylor will be reaching out to the staff to finalize plans for the chickens.
- We added a smaller basketball goal as well as a soccer goal to the main playground. Students have enjoyed it! This all came from a parent donation! He is also donating recess bags of a variety of sports balls for each grade level.
- MAP testing is here! All of the students have goals. Ms. Carway came up with an incentive.
- Blow Pops for every kid who grows
- Blow Pops and chips for kids who meet their goal.
- Blow Pops, chips, and juice for kids who meet their stretch goal.
- School Report Card (this is all public information):
- Average Range (2nd year in a row). Last year we were one point away, now we are three points away from Good.
- We were higher than the district and state in Mathematics.
- Science: Only 4th grade gets tested in science. We were below average, and below the district and state. Life Science was our lowest strand.
- Climate Survey: this comes out in the Spring. It is important that as many of us complete the survey honestly. For the last 5 years, our climate has been Excellent, but we dropped slightly down to Average. We’ve got some work to do, and we need to make sure we all take the survey in Spring.
- Title I/Curriculum Update: Ms. Stark

- Gingerbread Man Hunt for Faculty and Staff—we are in need of gift cards
- PTA Update: Alex Harrison
- November was good and busy! Friendsgiving and Teacher Appreciation Luncheon was great!
- Game Night was great! Tiffany Wessler and Mrs. Stark worked together to plan the event.
- No PTA Meeting or Popcorn this month.
- In January, the possible meeting date will be January 8th at 6pm.

- Mr. Taylor said if we meet our goal, we will spend the night at the school and livestream it.
- Spring Dance will be in March

Principal Taylor shared how happy students have been since returning to school. In sports news:
- The 49ers defeated the Eagles — Mr. Taylor was very excited.
- Mrs. Kowsky celebrated the Bills’ win over the Jaguars.
- Mrs. Gehrig shared positive feedback, noting that room parent programs have been incredibly supportive

- Meeting was called to order 7:30
- Members shared “Good Things” to kick off the meeting.
- January minutes were approved as submitted.
Principal Update: Mr. Taylor
- Students love the Town Halls to reinforce our 3 Bees (Bee Respectful, Bee Responsible, and Bee Ready to Learn)! A couple of grade levels are getting rewards for decreasing referrals.
- We have been identified as an ATSI school for our ML and students with disabilities (those subgroups are not doing as well as the rest of the school). We are enacting a plan for more collaboration across all areas.
- Climate—Parent Surveys are coming out this spring. They are huge for us!! We really need all parents to take the survey! Please help us push this.
Title I/Curriculum Update: Ms. Stark
- Collaborative Planning—Teachers are being provided with a ½ day of collaborative planning with Mrs. Stark.
School Counselor Update:
- Career Week is coming up. Volunteers are needed to help with this event, especially during the Career Vehicle Day. PTA will post that on the Facebook page to help recruit volunteers.
PTA Update: Alex Harrison
- Boosterthon is coming up end of February 23rd-March 4th. We are trying to raise $25,000 to go toward musical instruments on the playground. Registration opens today. A sign-up genius link will be sent to get volunteers to help with the Fun Run as well as passing out prizes.
Comments:
- SIC needs to start planning the Report to the Parents. Ms. Ryan did a wonderful job with it last year! The report is due in April.
